The SoundLocal Foundation is a nonprofit working to make music and arts education accessible to every student in Washington DC and Maryland. As schools across the region face painful budget cuts, music and theater programs are too often first on the chopping block. We're here to help change that.
This work was born out of a simple belief: that people still have the power to make meaningful change in their communities, even when larger systems fall short. At a time when it can feel like creativity, compassion, and connection are being undervalued, we're building something that uplifts them—through music, through education, and through access.
We support schools, educators, and emerging artists with the resources they need to keep the arts thriving. Our initiatives include:
As technology accelerates, and AI reshapes industries, the uniquely human skills fostered through the arts—like creativity, collaboration, empathy, and expression—are becoming increasingly vital. Music and theater don't just enrich lives; they prepare students for a future where adaptability, imagination, and emotional intelligence will define success.
By investing in the next generation of artists, performers, and creative thinkers, we're not just preserving the arts—we're helping shape a more vibrant, resilient, and connected future.
